Nearly twenty-five thousand homes in southeastern Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after powerful weather events swept through the region, producing powerful gusts reaching 109km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Destruction

Residents witnessed substantial frozen pellets measuring up to 7cm in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been impacted by large hailstones.

Response teams were attempting to repair power throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, approximately one thousand energy customers in the southern state also faced energy failures after the capital city saw its most precipitation in a year and a half.

Rescue organizations received nearly 600 requests for assistance across the region, mostly for structural issues but also for downed trees and inundation.

• Werribee - recorded considerable destruction
• Hoppers Crossing - various assistance requests
• Wyndham - over 175 calls for assistance

At one point on Sunday, over 28k electricity consumers in Victoria were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along large portions of eastern Queensland this next several days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

Tuesday was predicted as the wettest day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential anticipated across various areas of both states.

Medical Alert

Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This caution comes after historical occurrences where similar conditions led to major medical consequences in the area.
